I recently turned into a lacto-vegetarian

Last year in the month of February I decided to completely stop eating poultry, meat, eggs and sea food.

I took that decision deliberately as I started observing and noticing different facets of my personality and my well being.

I had already taken a break from every kind of distractions in my life and I had tons of questions to ask and you could say that I finally begun my journey of self discovery at the age of 26.

Therefore, I sat with myself and asked myself several set of questions: what are the things which I want in life, what makes me happy, what do I really love doing and what is my one goal in life.

Hey, don’t worry it isn’t one of those philosophical blog!

One of the things which really intrigue me is nutrition and fitness, I am always looking for the benefits and harmful effects of different kinds of vegetables, fruits and other dietary sources and simultaneously making time for working out while trying different forms of workouts and so much so that I started self studying about them all.

For years being a vegan or a vegetarian is mostly recognized as someone who has aversion to animal cruelty or it is the tradition in certain religion Nevertheless today it is highly recommended by doctors, nutritionist, fitness trainers whereas many eminent athletes, cricketers, and swimmers have turned into vegetarian. What made them changed their dietary preferences?

Nimai Delgado world’s first vegetarian body builder who lived with his parents who turned into Hinduism when he was born. Since childhood he was being fed with vegetarian meals containing lots of Indian aromatic spices subsequently he was also being taught an old Hindu concept known as “Ahimsa’ which means no harm.

He during one of his Google talks admits that he believes in compassion and how after watching various videos of dairy product processing and manufacture he pledged to completely quit all kinds of dairy consumption and participated in body building competition.

Today in the world there are various types of vegetarians:

-Lacto-Vegetarians (Adds dairy products but no eggs or poultry)

-Lacto-ova-Vegetarians (Also consume eggs and dairy but not poultry)

-Pure Vegan (Only consumes vegetables, fruits, pulses and seeds)

Other than harming innocent animals and poultry we also consume toxins and gets susceptible to diseases like atherosclerosis, diabetes mellitus, obesity, hypertension all resulting in metabolic syndrome on the other hand it also causes various kinds of autoimmune diseases and cancers pertaining to their high saturated fat content.

Whereas plant based diets completely covers our protein requirements, provides us with antioxidants, large amount of water content, vitamins and fiber which ultimately aids in faster metabolism and sustainable health.

Vegetarian diet is not any special diet but it’s just like any other diet and if planned wisely it can completely improve our health and overall well-being.

It’s simple, multicolored and it has variety of options making it exciting for a person like me who gets too bored with monotonous meal plans.

I have noticed following changes in me:

-I feel lighter after every meal

-Less bloating

-More energy

-Agility

-I feel more calm and relaxed

-Less acne breakouts

-Better sleep

I am not convincing you to completely switch your eating habits however I would like to advise you to take a break from eating heavy and most importantly start observing yourself how you feel after each meals and notice which food causes you heaviness, heartburn and makes you feel lazy and unfocused. Try to exchange that meal with any vegetable/pulses properly cooked meal of your choice or with any fruit and feel the difference in yourself.

Become a mindful eater because food is the basis of your entire existence.
